The Importance of a Pediatrician

Archive.

You always want to make sure that your children are their happiest and healthiest selves. One of the best ways you can do that is to make sure your child is cared for by a board-certified pediatrician. While taking your child to an after-hours clinic whenever they get sick can be quick and convenient, and having a general family doctor is great, the best thing for your child is a pediatrician – a doctor who specializes in working with children – who understands and provides care for your child as they grow up.

Pediatricians treat and care for a broad range of health care for children, teens, and young adults. Some of the most common and most important things a pediatrician does are:

  • Annual check-ups and evaluations
  • Routine immunizations
  • Treatment of a minor illness or injury
  • Referrals to a specialist if needed
Pediatricians also play a significant role in monitoring a child’s growth, and they are often able to prevent or diagnose:

  • Developmental delays
  • Learning delays
  • Mental-health concerns such as depression or anxiety
  • Behavioral problems

Make Annual Check-ups and Vaccinations a Routine

Your child should have an annual visit to their pediatrician just to make sure everything looks good. During this visit a pediatrician will likely:

  • Ask questions about overall health
  • Perform a physical exam
  • Recommend vaccines for children, depending on their age
  • Ask if there are any questions or concerns about the child’s health
These annual visits are a great way to ensure that your child is healthy and to catch any problems or concerns.

If a child is experiencing a chronic or serious illness, a pediatrician should be a main part of the child’s team of medical professionals. Pediatricians often specialize in certain illnesses or are able to refer a child and their parents to a specialist.

While navigating the best treatment plan for a child with a chronic or serious illness is never easy, a pediatrician can help communicate with you as the parent and help manage and treat your child’s symptoms.

We all want the best for our children, and pediatricians are there to help ensure that our children stay healthy and to provide care if a health concern does arise. At Crisp Regional, we have an excellent team of pediatricians who will serve you and your children with the best care possible.
