Summer Weight Loss

Archive.

Summer is the half-way point in the year, so many people hope to use summertime to make another push for those New-Year’s resolutions they made six months earlier. The warmer weather also makes it easier and more enjoyable to spend time outside, encouraging more exercise.
It can be hard to know where to start, though, when it comes to exercising and losing weight in the summer.  We’ve compiled some helpful tips below to get you on track for a healthy summer.

1. Set goals

There’s nothing better at motivating you than having a finish line to look forward to. The most effective way to do this is to make several smaller goals that lead up to the end goal.  That way you can watch your progress as you achieve one goal at a time.
It is a good idea to meet with your doctor as you are planning your health and weight loss goals. You doctor will be able to advise you about the best options for your specific body type and overall health.

2. Clean out the fridge

It’s best to get started off on the right foot by not having any unhealthy, unneeded foods in the kitchen. Designate a day to go through your fridge, kitchen cabinets, and pantry to clean out any unhealthy temptations.
While you’re cleaning, make a list of the foods that you DO want to have in your kitchen that you don’t yet.  That way, you’ll have a grocery list of healthy items to buy, and you’ll know what healthy foods you already have.
3.
Plan ahead
One of the best ways to ensure that you stick to a healthy diet is to meal plan.  Plan and portion out all your meals for the week on Sunday.  That way you won’t be tempted to turn to an unhealthy meal last minutely because you didn’t know what you should have for lunch.
It is also helpful to plan ahead for parties or get-togethers that often happen in the summertime.  If you’re going to a party, offer to bring a dish that is healthy and that you will feel comfortable eating in case there aren’t a lot of other healthy options.

4. Have an accountability partner

Everything is easier when you have a friend or family member to do it with you.  Share your weight loss plans and goals with someone you trust, so that they can help you stay on the right track to the finish line.
It is also important to generally surround yourself with healthy people who eat well and exercise often.  This will motivate you to live a healthy lifestyle, simply by being around others who do the same.

5. Change your dieting mindset

We live in a world that promotes quick fixes and easy solutions.  But your health should be taken more seriously.  Don’t think of losing weight as something you’re doing just for the summer.  Instead, establish habits that will help you live a healthy lifestyle all the time.
Dieting can be overwhelming, but with achievable goals, friends around you who are striving for the same kind of healthy lifestyle, and a positive mindset, you’ll be well on your way to living your healthiest life.
