Dr. Perry Greene Busbee, Jr., 92, passed away peacefully in his home on Wednesday, November 22, 2017, surrounded by his loving family. Perry was born May 12, 1925, to Perry Greene and Nell (Dekle) Busbee in Vienna, GA. He was the oldest of five children.

 

Perry graduated from Vienna High School in 1942, and attended Mercer University in Macon, GA, where he was a member of Phi Delta Theta Fraternity.
He left Mercer in 1943 to join the US Navy where he entered Hospital Corpsman School at Balboa Park in San Diego, graduating in the top 5% of his class. Perry served at the Seattle Naval Base, the Jacksonville Naval Base, and the Long Island Naval Base before being deployed to Okinawa. Following the Japanese surrender in 1945, he was assigned as a corpsman aboard a Yard Mine Sweeper in the South China Sea.
After the war, he returned home to Vienna, GA, and married his childhood sweetheart, Effie Afton Powell. They moved to Macon where he completed his undergraduate studies in pre-med at Mercer University. Following that, Perry graduated with honors from the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta. They returned to Macon where he completed his internship and residency. In 1953, they moved to Cordele, GA, where he practiced medicine for 38 years. He was beloved by his patients and fellow doctors alike.
A sports enthusiast, Perry loved to play golf, was the physician for the local high school football and basketball teams and never missed a ball game if he could help it. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and playing cards with friends and was well known around Cordele for his high energy and fast pace. All who knew him witnessed his love for his family, his passion for medicine and his dedication to taking care of his patients.
Dr. Busbee was well loved in the community as well at Crisp Regional.
