Getting Healthy in 2020

Crisp Living.

The most common New Year’s Resolutions often have to do with improving health. Many people aim to exercise more, lose weight, or drink more water. Trying to improve your health is a great goal to make at any time in the year, but since the start of a new year is a popular time to set new goals, below are a few practical steps you can take to help get you on your way to having a healthy 2020.

1. Get a physical exam

Starting the year with a doctor’s visit and physical exam is a great way to get an update on your health and share any concerns you may have with your doctor. A yearly exam will likely include
– A physical exam
– A visual and auditory exam
– Recommended vaccines
If you make visiting your doctor an annual habit, your doctor will be able to track your health progress and notice if anything seems unusual or concerning.

2. Share your nutrition goals

If you are planning to start a new diet or cut out certain food from your diet, it is always a good idea to consult your doctor first.
This doctor’s visit is also a good time to get allergy testing done if you’ve found yourself having reactions to any foods recently.  Some allergies can develop later in life, and knowing what you are allergic to, can ensure that you don’t experience any adverse or harmful reactions to foods.
In addition, your doctor may be able to tell whether you have any nutritional deficiencies based on your blood work.  If needed, he or she may be able to prescribe nutritional supplements or suggest certain foods that will help you get the nutrients you need.

3. Share your exercise goals

Whether you are hoping to lose a few pounds or build up strength or endurance, share your exercise goals with your doctor. He or she may be able to offer advice about how to safely reach your goals.
Certain health conditions such as heart disease can be made worse by certain movements or activity, so it is important to know how you can remain healthy and active without putting your health and body at risk.
Visiting your doctor at the beginning of the year is a great way to make sure that you are including the healthy habits, nutrition, and activities you need to be your healthiest self. This year, make a New Year’s resolution to make visiting the doctor at the start of the new year a yearly tradition!
